A job we did in KT1
Kingston upon Thames KT1
Bosch air source heat pump
Installed on a flat roof on a raised frame, so the roof covering carries no point load and rainwater still runs freely underneath.
We install, service and repair air conditioning across Kingston upon Thames KT1. A single room is £2,400 to £3,200 fitted and a whole house is £8,400 to £11,300, with a free survey and a written price that does not change.
A single or two-room system with the condenser on a flat roof on a load-spreading frame, or at ground level in a rear yard where there is one. One to two days.
What the housing in Kingston upon Thames means for the job
KT1 is Kingston town centre, Canbury and Norbiton, and it carries three kinds of property that each want a different answer. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces behind the town centre have narrow plots and the rear elevation is usually the position. The riverside and town centre flats, including a good deal of recent development, are structurally easy and entirely governed by the management company. And there is an unusual amount of flat roof here, on extensions and on the blocks themselves, which is both a common place to put plant and a common reason to need a proper frame rather than feet on a membrane.
Worth knowing before you book. A flat roof position has to leave the covering intact and water running freely underneath. The Bosch machine in the photograph above stands on a raised frame for exactly that reason: a condenser bearing directly on a single-ply membrane will damage it, and that becomes a roofing bill rather than an air conditioning one.

Sited round the corner from the conservatory glazing rather than beside it, because a fan discharging at glass is the most common cause of a noise complaint about a unit that is running perfectly.

See if it paysAir conditioning in Kingston upon Thames: common questions
Can the unit go on the flat roof of my extension?
Usually yes, on a frame that spreads the load. It is often the best position available on a terrace where the side return has been built over.
It adds £300 to £750 over a ground-level position, for the frame and the extra labour at height.
I am in a riverside block. Is it possible?
Often, and the deciding document is the management company's alterations policy rather than anything structural. Some blocks have a designated plant deck, which makes it simple.
Ask them for the policy in writing before you pay anyone for a design.
How far are you from Kingston?
We are based in N14, so KT1 is a proper drive rather than a local job. It does not carry a surcharge, but survey slots there are batched, so book with a little more notice.
