What the housing in Southgate means for the job
Southgate grew around the Piccadilly line arriving in the 1930s, and most of N14 is what that produced: interwar semi-detached and detached houses on generous plots, with a side return wide enough to stand an outdoor unit at ground level and a short run up to the bedrooms. Rooms are bigger than the London average, which usually means a 3.5 kW unit where a smaller terrace would take 2.5 kW. There are Victorian and Edwardian streets closer to Bowes and New Southgate, where the rear elevation is the answer instead, and newer flats around the station and the Circus. Worth knowing before you book. Side returns here are wide enough for a ground-level position, which is quieter and easier to service in ten years than a bracket at first-floor height. It is worth asking for that even when a bracket is cheaper on the day.

How fast can you get to N14?

Do I need planning permission in Southgate?
